Projects in 2015

Early Education Centres

Spent $9,923 on operating expenses for eight Early Education Centres, maintaining quality early-childhood education across rural villages. 

Education Development

Provided $2,700 in financial support through the Vanni Tamil Community & Cultural Centre (Vanni Sangam) to assist financially disadvantaged families with children’s education.

Pregnant Women Nutrition

Supplied nutritional food packets to underweight pregnant women living below the poverty line via IMHO, totaling $15,000.

Flood Relief

Delivered flood relief in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, including dry rations, milk products, and hygiene kits, at a cost of $5,000.

Village Resettlement

Funded construction of homes for economically disadvantaged families, providing $2,030 toward materials and labor.

Children’s Centre Support

Provided $3,000 to purchase furniture for a children’s centre managed by the Children’s Air Rehabilitation and Education Program (C-REP) in Vipulananthapuram, Batticaloa.

Community Capacity Building

Empowered local communities through livelihood programs, distributing sewing machines to women in Batticaloa District in partnership with IMHO, totaling $3,750.

Projects in 2016

Early Education Centres

A total of $4,500 has been spent to cover operating expenses for eight early education centres, ensuring continued access to foundational learning for young children. This support helps maintain essential services, resources, and staffing needed to foster a nurturing educational environment at the community level.

Education Development
Provided $900 in micro-grants via the Vanni Tamil Community & Cultural Centre (Vanni Sangam) to support children’s education for financially disadvantaged families. Committed $7,000 to conduct year-long evening classes for Grade 10 students in Ayithiyamalai and Unnichchai, Batticaloa, to prevent school dropouts.
Livelihood Support
Trained spinal cord injured IDPs in technical, entrepreneurial and business skills to set up their own businesses in mobile phone repairs, and to provide them with required tools including computers to carry out their businesses.
School Children Nutrition
Provided one year of daily breakfast to 15 economically disadvantaged students at Palai Central College, enhancing academic focus and health. Cost: $2,015.
Pregnant Women Nutrition
Pledged $10,000 to supply nutritional food packets for underweight pregnant women living below the poverty line, in partnership with IMHO.
Rehabilitation Centre (VAROD)
Supplemented funding for the Claret Arunothayam Female’s Empowerment Centre kitchen and facilities—managed by the Vanni Rehabilitation Organization for the Differently-Abled—enabling therapeutic and vocational activities. Cost: $10,000.
Community Capacity Building
Provided $1,550 for livelihood programs—such as sewing-machine distributions—to empower women in Batticaloa District via IMHO partnerships.
Dairy Farm Project
Pledged $9,600 to develop and operate an agricultural dairy farm in Thunukkai, creating employment for widows and the impoverished; profits are split between project sustainability and charitable activities.

Rehabilitation Centres

Provided funding for building a rehabilitation centre in Tharmapuram, Kilinochi for those struggling with alcohol addiction, through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). 

Early Education Centres
Covered operating expenses for 14 village preschool centres, ensuring they remained open and properly staffed throughout the year.
Early Education Centres
Built a new preschool facility in Kanchipuram (Vinayagapuram) to expand access to early-childhood education for local children.

Early Education Centres

Renovated three village preschools—Gandhi Nagar, Cheddikkulam Preschool; Sinnaththampanai Preschool; and Veerapuram Preschool—to improve early childhood learning environments.

Community Capacity Building

Provided financial assistance for building houses, renovating a damaged tube-well, and upgrading farming equipment in Pavatkulam Village, supporting local self-reliance.

Pregnant Women Nutrition

Supplied milk powder and nutritional support packets to 75 underweight pregnant women living below the poverty line, improving maternal and child health outcomes.

Rehabilitation Centre

Made an initial payment toward constructing a rehabilitation centre for mentally and physically challenged girls—managed by the Vanni Rehabilitation Organization for the Differently-Abled (VAROD)—to offer therapeutic and skill-building activities.

Miscellaneous Projects

Other targeted interventions addressing urgent community needs across the Eastern Province, including small-scale infrastructure and relief works.

Kunchuparanthan Resettlement Phase II

As part of Phase II, Anpuneri constructed an 18 × 30 sq ft building now used for preschool in the mornings and vocational training in the afternoons. At the formal opening ceremony we also distributed school supplies and reusable clothing. Village volunteers helped build the centre—fostering community cohesion—and we provided self-earning support to 17 families. Total cost: $3,700. 

Distribution of Reusable Clothes & Micro-Credit in Killinochi District

Anpuneri distributed reusable clothing to 100 people, then selected 10 families to receive micro-credit facilities to launch self-earning projects. Total cost: $1,500.

Korakkan Kaddu Children’s Playground Reconstruction

To support children’s physical development, Anpuneri rebuilt the Kurakkan Kaddu preschool playground in Kandawalai and provided new play equipment. This benefits over 250 local children, and we also delivered school bags and supplies to more than 65 students. Project cost: approximately $2,000.

Maravankulam Water Facility Construction

In Maravankulam settlement (North Vavuniya District), we funded the drilling and fitting of a well to supply drinking water to the local daycare centre managed by CACM. Total cost: $1,700.

Renovated the village’s common buildings in Kunchuparanthan for use as a preschool and community centre during after-school hours. Raised $450 (total for 2011: $18,030).

Education Development

Supplied notebooks and school supplies to Paranthan Public School students facing severe hardships ($750) and distributed sports equipment and clothing to Kurakkan Kaddu Preschool ($2,000). Built the Kunchuparanthan Preschool building for $3,000 and sponsored $2,100 in self-earning projects for orphan-related families.

Flood Relief
Deployed emergency assistance to resettled families in the Vanni region affected by December 2011 heavy rains and floods. Raised $1,000.

Community Rehabilitation

Financed the production of mobility devices—including wheelchairs—for those disabled by the civil war, in partnership with IMHO and the Jaffna Jaipur Center for Disability Rehabilitation (JJCDR).

Provided small-business micro-grants (e.g. poultry farms) to 28 widows and 53 students to help them restart their lives after the conflict.

Children Sponsorship

Sponsored 20 orphaned children at the close of the civil war through the “God’s Own Children Foundation.”

Batticaloa Flood Relief

Delivered emergency supplies—including milk products, dry rations, and hygiene kits—to those affected by severe flooding in Batticaloa.

Village Resettlement

Shipped reusable clothing, donated 20 bicycles, and provided school supplies to families in Kunchuparanthan–Chalampan displaced by conflict and natural disasters.
