In 2019, Anpuneri Canada provided $44,900 in financial support to the Periyakulam Village Development Organization to implement the community’s own needs-assessment plan, including drilling two new tube wells for clean drinking water; facilitating government electricity connections; installing street lights; purchasing and fencing 10 acres for an income-generating farm; constructing a 28-ft-diameter agro-well; preparing land and purchasing seeds; supplying after-school furniture and teacher salaries; funding the local coordinator’s salary plus laptop and cell-phone; and buying 29 bicycles so students could reach school.
At the same time, we granted $13,000 in continuous support to the Panchenai Village Development Society for its identified priorities: after-school programming and temporary teacher salaries; farm building on nine acres with seasonal planting; sports equipment for the local club; scholarships and six bicycles for G.C.E. A/L students; facilitation of the annual “Big Match” cricket event; and coordination of mobile medical clinics, postal services, and government-funded irrigation works.
For the 2018–2019 cycle, Anpuneri invested $3,800 to run year-long evening classes for Grades 8–11 in Ayithiyamalai and Unnichchai, Batticaloa—covering tuition, expert teacher salaries, and program logistics—to curb dropout rates among financially disadvantaged students, and provided an additional $1,050 grant through the Vanni Tamil Community and Cultural Centre (Vanni Sangam) to assist families with school-related expenses.
Anpuneri partnered with the Cheddikulam Divisional Secretariat to distribute 250 bedsheets to senior citizens, covering all procurement and logistical costs for a total of $1,100.
